Avengers #188 - John Byrne art & cover

Avengers #188 marvel 1970s bronze age comic book cover art by John Byrne
John Byrne
Avengers v1 #1881979 - Passing through the Soviet Union, the Avengers offer their aid when disaster strikes at their largest nuclear power plant. John Byrne's cover, while adequate, tries a bit too hard at squeezing in all the heroes and villains within the confined space. His story art fares a little better, although his pencils are impacted by a change in inkers. Dan Green does a capable job on the first seven pages, but Frank Springer's inks lack clarity and sensitivity. Perhaps not coincidentally, Byrne's drawings seem to wane toward the end of the book. This is 11 of 17 Avengers issues by Byrne. /// Byrne gallery
