Eerie v3 #9 - Neal Adams, Steve Ditko art

Eerie v3 #9
Eerie v3 #9, 1967Neal Adams illustrates the tale of an elderly curmudgeon who uses his vast wealth to steal another man's youth. After the opening splash, the artist employs a variety of layouts. Adams' use of cross-hatching and greytones add much needed depth. Overall, his superlative drawings are the glue that brings the disparate pages together. This story was later reprinted in Eerie v3 #23, #125 and the Eerie v3 1972 annual. In "Isle of the Beast", Steve Ditko visualizes a man-beast who hunts men for sport on a remote island. His drawings are permeated with gray washes, adding an uncommon richness (see interior page below). Despite the lack of color, Ditko's magazine work generally outperforms his full color comics from the same era. Other artists in this bronze age magazine include Dan Adkins. This is 1 of 5 Eerie issues by Adams and 7 of 8 Eerie issues by Ditko.
